Don

The Agency

The agency's founder, Don (imagine that) Ouellette, has been in the advertising/graphic arts industry since 1976. He secured his first position in high school with Bush Hog R & D (1976-1979) as a technical illustrator drawing and formatting parts books for their roadside mowers. While in college he produced manuals, brochures and magazine ads for Diversified Products and Ampex Tapes (1979-1983).

He moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1983 and went to work for Summit Technical, Inc. (1983-1985). Through Summit, he gained valuable experience working with accounts such as IBM, GTE, Bendix Avionics Division, Pratt Whitney, Boroughs and Motorola.

His successes with Summit caught the attention of Kert Advertising Inc., an up and coming adverting agency on the national scene. In late 1985, Kert hired him as their Vice President of Operations (1985-1992). While at Kert, he honed his skills working with accounts such as Nutri/System Weight Loss Centers; Trinidad & Tobago Tourism Development Authority; Swiss Chalet Restaurants; Parts Depot/Steego Auto Parts; Coors Light (Hispanic); Peoples Jewelers; Shoppers Drug Mart; and various other accounts.

After seven years with Kert, he felt he had gotten away from what drove him to the advertising industry in the first place. He decided to leave the national scene, go back to his roots and find a smaller market to start a local agency. He settled in Port St. Joe, Florida with the intention of offering his services to the Florida Panhandle and surrounding areas.

He formed Marketing & Media, a full service marketing, advertising and public relations agency. In November of 1992, the agency obtained its first account, Subway Restaurants Panama City DMA (1992-1999). By mid 1993, Marketing & Media had acquired Subway Restaurants Dothan DMA (1993-1999), Horizon Companies, Inc. (1992-Present), and Gulf Coast Eye Clinic & Newberry Eye Clinic, currently The Eye Center of North Florida (1992-2007).

Marketing & Media also handled accounts such as Long-Lewis Companies (1995-Present), WJHG-TV 7 NBC (1996-Present) and various other smaller accounts. The agency also performed pro bono marketing, advertising and public relations services for charitable and civic organizations such as Guardian Ad Litem, The Junior Service League, Foundation for Learning, Growing Minds Center for Autism, The Humane Society, Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC), Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre and many other worthy causes.

One day the agency decided to build a new website for its own business. For some reason, the name didn’t seem to fit what the agency was about anymore. A lot had changed in 18 years and so had the agency. So after 18 years as Marketing & Media, the agency decided to spruce up with a new name and enthusiasm. That's how DON was born. Trust me, you most likely cannot pronounce his last name. If you can... DISCOUNT!
